An Idea can change your Life
An idea - contagious, influential, unique, and highly pervasive
- has the ability to change the dimensions of human horizon. I am not trying to
quote Inception, but something on that lines, for sure. All the big inventions
and findings in the history originated from an idea that changed the course of
mankind. Be it Newton with an apple or James Watt with steam or Maxwell with
his inexplicable experiments, every great leap of faith can be narrowed down to
a single momentous moment. But what perturbs me the most is the irony that
these ideas came to a selected group of people. Is there any similarity between
these groups or is it based on random attribution to people?
My inquisitive mind and restless soul wanted answer because it can actually change one's life by making oneself a part of those selected
people. After doing shit load of muSearchTM I have gathered a lot of
content to answer this question and live in peace for eternity. I stumbled upon
the book “Outliers” which explained ‘The 10,000 rule’. Basic proposition of
this is a simple yet implicative mantra which is often confused with a cliché -
Hard work is directly proportional to success. Since hard work is also related
to time, it can be concluded that time spent for a deed is the determining
factor for its success’ probability. According to the author Malcom Gladwell,
the required time approximately equals 10,000 hours. Steve Jobs had his
homework of 10,000 hours before making the prototype for Mac. Same goes with
Bill Gates, both used to code dedicatedly from 12-20 years of age, hence when
the time came to prove their mettle, these packets of hard work in the pockets
of the two made all the difference. I always wondered what came in the
mind of the guy who created the game 2048. What would have made someone to
think of ‘Pacman’? A simple and lucid yet addictive in its own way.
But wait, I would defy to concur that Mark Zuckerberg had his
10,000 hours of practice ready. He was a coder, but something like Facebook
just happened out of the blue. It was a unique idea that was not thought
by anyone. However this doesn’t means that there was something great or
exceptional about the person; the idea was lingering in the society for quite a
long, waiting for someone to think of it and get rich. And that’s what
some people did. They were at the right place at the right time. No, I am not
at all defaming Mark or questioning his intelligence. I am just stating that
the “Idea” can, at times, come from a person whose chances of thinking the idea
were minuscule but just because of the alignment of planets, someone
clicked on these “Ideas”.
So how come I got peace? The answer is still vague. Is it
hard work or coincidence? Well if I would have known the answer I would have
given several ideas and you would be reading this in Forbes. What I learned
from all the research is that we all should be carrying our course of life in
the pursuit of happiness. Only when we enjoy what we do, think or act we can
have ideas that are unique or influential. Bottom line – Be happy and get
peace.
